KIOSK
INFORMATION SYSTEMS JOINS FORCES WITH AUTOMON CORPORATION
Partnership Automates Paper-Based Law Enforcement
Procedures and Allows Officers to Focus on High-Risk Cases
BROOMFIELD,
Colo. - Kiosk Information Systems recently announced its contract
with AutoMon Corporation, the leading provider of case management
technology solutions to the community corrections marketplace, to
manufacture kiosks to increase the efficiency and effectiveness
of community supervision agencies charged with managing the nearly
4 million individuals currently on probation, parole or pretrial
supervision in the United States. Combining KIOSK kiosks with AutoMon's
case management software automates face-to-face reporting between
officers and offenders and the maintenance of offender files, allowing
officers to focus their time on field visits and high-risk cases.
For probationers
and defendants, the automated reporting process is quite simple.
Individuals are assigned a uniquely coded magnetic stripe card,
which is used to activate their caseload information at the beginning
of a kiosk reporting interview. Once the probationer's/defendant's
identity has been verified via a biometric device that reads hand
geometry or fingerprints, the kiosk offers a series of questions
that are tailored to the individual's supervision type and judicially
ordered conditions. Upon completion of the remote interview, probationers/defendants
receive a printed receipt documenting their required session. All
kiosk interviews are electronically stored, allowing officers to
retrieve a complete Report to Probation Office (RPO) with a simple
mouse click.
Criminal justice agencies that use KIOSK/AutoMon kiosks benefit from
more than just remote interviewing. "Los Angeles County recently
deployed 10 kiosks for use within its criminal justice system,"
said Tom Jones, president and CEO of AutoMon Corporation. "Located
in various government buildings, police stations and work release
offices, the kiosks are used to collect victim restitution and cost
of supervision fees, which saves officers' time and ensures accurate
records of payment." The county plans to install an additional
20 kiosks in the next year for financial collections and remote
interviewing.
Public information
terminals stand to benefit all types of organizations by helping
to manage human resources more effectively. "In light of recent
national events, it's crucial that all law enforcement agencies
evaluate how they allocate field supervision hours," noted
Rick Malone, KIOSK president. "The deployment of kiosks is an
excellent way to free officers from time-consuming in-office interviews
and paperwork and give them more time to focus on critical cases
and duties."
