KIOSK INFORMATION SYSTEMS PARTNERS WITH FREEOSK
TO PROVIDE CONVENIENCE STORE CUSTOMERS WITH FREE INTERNET ACCESS
BROOMFIELD,
Colo. - Kiosk Information Systems recently announced its contract
with Boston-based FREEosk Inc. to manufacture kiosks that provide
convenience store customers with free e-mail and free Internet access
to Web sites supplying travel and movie information, local driving
directions and online dating services. The units, called FREEosks,
are currently located in 20 Store 24 convenience stores throughout
the Boston area. Since December 2001, more than 30,000 Store 24
customers have utilized the FREEosk units, increasing overall store
traffic in the 20 branches by .4 percent.
FREEosk selected
KIOSK' standard KW-612 WebStop product for its kiosk project for two
reasons - the size of the WebStop could be easily integrated into
the convenience stores and the design was different than anything
FREEosk executives had seen before. The configuration allows users
to sit down at the kiosk to check their e-mail, access the Internet
or use the Web telephone, and a video screen on the top of the unit
is used to advertise convenience store products. The KW-612 also
features a cash acceptor and credit card reader, enabling customers
to purchase products of all kinds via the Internet.
"Internet
services are becoming more prevalent and critical to consumers'
lives," said Jeffrey Wootan, executive vice president of FREEosk.
"KIOSK has made it possible for FREEosk to develop a product
that allows convenience stores to satisfy customer needs by meeting
their convenience expectations. In addition to free e-mail access,
the FREEosk units provide links to information on local restaurants,
sports schedules, community events and maps, giving customers new
reasons to stop into their local convenience store daily."
KIOSK President
Rick Malone viewed the FREEosk project as an example of how kiosks
can foster customer relationships in a variety of retail environments.
"The unique design of the FREEosk units attracts customers
to the kiosks. The Store 24 units currently average approximately
200 users per unit per week - the kiosks are easy to use and customers
love the services they provide. Convenience stores have offered
fax machines and photocopiers to their customers for years. Internet
connectivity through kiosks is clearly the next step."
