Kiosks as Marketing Tool?
Broomfield,
Colo. - You see them everywhere these days - high-tech kiosks. The
latest application includes a kiosk designed by Kiosk Information
Systems for US West that is currently being tested in Colorado
CompUSA stores.
The brightly
colored kiosks allow customers to witness the performance capabilities
of a standard modem compared to a DSL modem. The 15" screen simultaneously
downloads a file while demonstrating the speed in which the 280kb
per second DSL offers customers.
US West targets
customers in areas where the service is offered and drives interest
via direct-mail informing customers that they can check out the
service at their nearby CompUSA store. The interactive kiosk has
a telephone adjacent to the display screen, directly connecting
to US West's customer service allowing the customer to order the
modem on the spot, have it shipped to their home or office and invoiced
on their next phone bill.
"The success
of the ATM, the first modern electronic kiosk for the masses spurred
development of many other sophisticated self-service terminals for
a variety of applications," explains Rick Malone, President of Kiosk
Information Systems , "their uses and capabilities are changing
every day. The advent of the Web and its influence on people's abilities
and their need to use technology, has made kiosks more user-friendly."
